Intro

Welcome in Abiders, today marks the first day of our adventures together. Although you will find a variety of great/safe topics on my site, I find it only fitting that I begin this season of Articles talking about the one thing that drives my creativity and passion. Nothing gets my juices pumping more than talking about God; He is my passion! So in this season I'll share what I know and the steps I took in growing a true, intimate relationship with Jesus. After this article I will follow up with one week (five days) of daily devotionals that tie directly into this week's article. Articles followed by devotional will be relatively short and sweet. So grab a cup of coffee(or whatever you prefer that you like) and enjoy this article brought to you by The Privy Penman.

Season: Coffee ☕ & Jesus ✝️

(Personification of Holy Spirit)

Coffee and Jesus, two of my favorites and not necessarily in that order! Nothing is better than relaxing at the end of my day with a cup of coffee and spending time with Jesus. A coffee date if you will! This opening season by The Privy Penman is called "Coffee ☕ & Jesus ✝️". We will focus on becoming friends with God and seeing our relationship with Jesus in an intimate way.

I remember when I used to pray for times like this, to be close to Jesus and best friends with Holy Spirit. I used to admire those who went on dates with Holy Spirit and actually enjoyed His company. I would often think to myself "are they really enjoying themselves?" Or "does Holy Spirit actually keep them company?", and I'm here to verify that it is very real. I know that it is uncommon to see a 6 '4, black man talk about going on dates with God, but when God breaks you down and builds you back up, He wins a place in your heart and all that toxic masculinity has no place in your relationship with Him.

Yes, it is real! A relationship with the third person of The Holy Trinity is very tangible and I'm here to show you how I obtained it. Be prepared for a new outlook on your relationship with God. You will not only find friendship with God, but you will know how to finally get to a place in God where we all desire to be. I know we get tired of failing and letting God down, but prayerfully this Blog will be the answer to your prayers, in Jesus name!

In this introduction I'd like to harp on the personification of Holy Spirit! This is vital to seeing God in a new light. Personification of Holy Spirit is simply seeing and referring to Him as a person with feelings and character, as He is. Oftentimes we refer to Holy Spirit as an "it" instead of a person. We say "The Holy Spirit" as if He were an item or a tool.

When we refer to our parents we don't say "the Mom" or "the Dad", but we make it more personable. Holy Spirit is a gift from Jesus. Friendship with Holy Spirit is a privilege to desire. No one likes to be seen as a tool; something you use when it benefits you. Practicing to remove "the" from His title will help you realize that He is a person, although there's no problem with reverencing Him as "The Holy Spirit"

Holy Spirit desires communion and relationship with whom He inhabits. Once you begin to realize that He is a being; a person, you will start to consider how your actions affect Him. Once you understand that you can grieve Him (Ephesians 4:30-32)you will become more aware of His presence and conscience of where you take Him, what you do with Him, and what you expose Him to.

In doing so, prepare yourself for random hugs of comfort from Holy Spirit throughout your day. He loves to remind us that He is with us right where we are. Anyone with a true relationship can testify that His random greetings are easily the highlights of your week!

After we have acknowledged and understand that Holy Spirit is a being with emotion, we must now put forth an effort to grow a relationship with Him. You may ask "How do I do that?", my answer is simple. Just like any relationship you must first acknowledge them. Imagine always being with someone and they never acknowledge your presence. Just a simple "Hey, Holy Spirit" throughout your day opens a whole new mindset. Once you get used to greeting Him, conversation with Him will begin to flow and feel more natural! Once you are now walking and talking with Him, you now are aware of Him. Now spending time in communion has become a regular thing. He does talk back! It can be a sudden inspiration or imprinted in your heart. Whatever means by which He speaks to you, God knows how to reach His children.

Ever so often there will be an article published on Mondays at 7pm, followed by a week of daily devotions that are directly related to the article of the week. These Daily Devotionals are meant to further elaborate on the article and assist the readers in their faith journey. We must emphasize “assist”. Understand that daily devotionals are great nuggets to chew on, but if we truly would like to grow we must dive deeper, and make sure we are a part of a bible teaching community where we can receive meat for our spirits.

As always my fellow Abiders, remain hidden in the Lord.
